Upon choosing a health care plan, people tend to look at numerous propositions to pick out the best one among the bunch. While it is undoubtedly the best way to go, people tend to get lost in the process of choosing because of all the technical and complicated terms involved. To avoid all of these, here are three basic questions to ask in choosing health care insurance: What are the services covered?
Different insurance plans cover different sets of medical care. Some health care plans may not cover mental health or prescription drugs. As of 2014 however, all insurance plans are required to include ten essential health benefits such as hospitalization, laboratory tests, dental & vision care, and more. On the other hand, if you are picking out a plan provided by the larger employer, it is better to consult your boss about the Summary of Benefits and Coverage (SBC) which accurately states what the plan covers and what it does not. How much does it cost? For this, you must look at two main factors: one is how much you are going to have to pay the insurance company monthly, and the second is the out-of-pocket costs. The out-of-pocket costs are the combined amounts of your deductibles, coinsurance, and copays. It will be the amount of money you are going to have to pay out of your pocket upon receiving medical care. You must weigh these two factors carefully while considering whether you’ll be receiving a lot of medical care in the future. A high amount of monthly payment may result in a lower out-of-pocket cost and is good if you plan to receive a lot of medical treatment. Can you keep your current doctor? Ask the company about the limits and coverage of the doctors or hospitals in the plan they are offering, since health insurance plans have its network of providers. Medical providers and insurance companies usually have a contract stating their agreement to provide services at a given cost. In case your current doctor is not included in their directory, the insurance plan may not be able to cover the medical bill or might ask you to pay a higher share of the cost. Health hazards are everywhere and getting the best insurance for you may be the best protection from all of it yet. I appreciate you helping me to understand that it is important to weigh the factors of out-of-pocket costs and monthly payments when purchasing health insurance. It seems like it would be important to review the options that you can pick from when purchasing health insurance. Working with an insurance agent would be a good way to learn more about your options.
